Alas, no new project to post today. I was pretty sick for most of the week, and didn’t accomplish much besides laying on the couch and watching Netflix (between naps). It’s just been the last few days I’ve had the energy to get back into working on a couple of things – the BoeBot, the Raspberry Pi, and a little virtual housecleaning. So despite the interruption, there’s once again stuff percolating in the background, and I hope to have some more ready to post soon.
A cardboard chest, some colored markers and stickers…
Ah, December. That wonderful time of year when it becomes almost impossible to actually get anything done. At work, it’s a race to get things finished before vacation. At home, it’s Christmas shopping & family obligations. I’ve been staying up later than usual, and sometimes it seems that I’m accomplishing less.
This time of year, personal hobbies can take a back seat. Instead of working on my own projects today, I spent some time helping my Mom wrap presents. I have two young nephews, and I have to say it’s amazing how many toys for toddlers are packaged in ways that are inimical to wrapping paper.
We did have time for a bit of arts & crafts fun – the older nephew is going through a “pirate” phase, so we decorated and filled a treasure chest for him. Not exactly expert craftsmanship, but fun to do.
… filled with loot for a 3-year-old buccaneer!
Don’t fear, however! I’ve got a few ideas in the works, and with vacation time on the horizon I hope to have a couple of juicy posts coming up before the end of the year!
No project this week? What madness is this?
Well, I spent a chunk of my weekend helping my Mom get her house ready for winter, and the rest of my free time getting a new development PC set up. I don’t think installing storm doors is particularly on-topic for this blog, and there’s usually nothing very hack-worthy about setting up a pre-built PC.
Come to think of it, I did spend a fair amount of time poking at the innards of the new machine with a screwdriver trying to isolate an annoying, but very quiet, harmonic noise. Loosening one of the fan screws just a half turn seems to have done the trick, at least for the moment. The hardest noises to track down are always the ones at the edge of your perception, so I’ll just have to keep my ears open and see what happens. And yes, I have been told before that I’m overly sensitive about those sorts of things.
Other than that, it’s just been a matter of installing one application after another. Okay, copying my entire Steam folder over, and then installing apps.
But never fear! I’ve got some new toys to talk about, some new projects I’m working on, and some big ideas to announce. So next week, something cool! I promise!
