My last-minute entry for the summer 2014 Retrochallenge is that I’m going to write a character editor for Questron, an old-school CRPG from 1984. I’ll link all the posts on this page for easy reference.
- Some Questron Basics
- Digging into the Disks
- Copy protection in Questron
- Cracking the Questron Save Files
- Decoding BASIC Variables
- We’ll call it “QuestronEd”
- Retrochallenge Accomplished!
If you have a Commodore 64 – or an emulator – and a copy of Questron, you can try out Questron Ed for yourself. The zip file contains the source code (in C for the cc65 compiler) and a .d64 disk image with an executable copy of the editor. Give it a shot – just don’t blame me if something goes wrong 😉
